Documents Checklist for Travelling to the USA from India
Getting your paperwork right is the key to a smooth USA trip. Use this checklist so nothing is missed — and keep digital copies of everything.
Before you travel
- Passport — valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date.
- US B1/B2 tourist visa — apply 2–3 months ahead due to appointment waits in India.
- DS-160 confirmation and your visa interview documents.
- Tour confirmation letter & itinerary — we provide these to support your visa application.
- Travel insurance — strongly recommended; US medical costs are very high.
- Proof of funds (bank statements, ITR) and ties to India (employment, property) for your visa interview.
What to carry at the airport (hand luggage)
- Passport with the US visa
- Flight tickets (printed or digital)
- Printed copy of your tour itinerary and confirmation letter
- Travel insurance document
- Some US dollars in cash + an international card
- A couple of passport-size photographs
Smart backups
- Keep photocopies of your passport and visa in a separate bag.
- Store digital scans of every document in your email or cloud, so you can access them even if the originals are lost.
- Note down emergency contacts, including the nearest Indian consulate.
